Troubleshooting: OwlOps App Not Loading on Wi-Fi

If the OwlOps mobile app is stuck on the loading screen when connected to Wi-Fi (but works fine on cellular), the problem is usually related to your network’s DNS settings.

Issue Summary

If the OwlOps mobile app gets stuck on the loading screen while connected to Wi-Fi — but works fine on cellular data — it’s often due to your Wi-Fi network’s DNS settings.

In some cases, the network is using a local DNS server (like 192.168.1.2) that fails to properly route traffic to our API. Switching to a public DNS provider such as Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or Google DNS (8.8.8.8) typically resolves the issue immediately.

Step 1: Update DNS Settings on Your Router (Recommended)

If you manage your network or have access to the router:

  1. Open your router’s admin page
(usually something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1)

  2. Log in with your router credentials

  3. Locate the DNS settings (often under “Internet” or “LAN” settings)

  4. Replace the current DNS entries with:

    • Primary DNS: 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare)

    • Secondary DNS: 1.0.0.1 or 8.8.8.8 (Google)

  5. Save your changes and restart the router

This change will apply to all devices on your network and is the most effective long-term fix.

Step 2: Update DNS Settings on Your Phone (if router access isn't possible)

If you can’t change the router settings, you can manually override DNS on your phone:

For iPhone / iPad (iOS 15+)

  1. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi

  2. Tap the i icon beside your connected Wi-Fi

  3. Scroll down and tap Configure DNS

  4. Select Manual

  5. Tap Add Server and enter:

    • 1.1.1.1

    • (Optional: Add 1.0.0.1 or 8.8.8.8)

  6. Remove any old DNS entries if visible

  7. Tap Save

For Android (varies by device)

  1. Open Settings > Network & Internet

  2. Tap Wi-Fi

  3. Tap the gear icon or network name for your connected Wi-Fi

  4. Tap Advanced

  5. Change IP Settings to Static

  6. Enter:

    • DNS 1: 1.1.1.1

    • DNS 2: 1.0.0.1 or 8.8.8.8

  7. Save the settings
